Fraction practice
Add, subtract, multiply, divide and simplify fractions, with the working shown after every answer.
Practice session
What you practise
Type your answer as a fraction such as 5/6, or as a whole number when the denominator is 1. The feedback spots two classic mistakes: adding the denominators together, and stopping before the fraction is simplified. Your progress stays on this device.
- Adding and subtracting with common denominators
- Multiplying and dividing
- Simplifying with the greatest common divisor (GCD)
Levels and difficulty
Pick vmbo, havo or vwo first. The session starts at difficulty 1 and moves between 1 and 4 based on your last five answers: all five right takes you up, two or fewer right takes you back down with the explanation already open. Havo and vwo questions open with bereken (calculate), the Dutch exam verb for "het gevraagde uitrekenen" (syllabus wiskunde B havo 2027 (Examenblad)). In test mode there is a timer and no hints until the summary.
Example
Calculate 1/2 + 1/3.
- Common denominator: 1/2 + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6
- Add: 5/6
- Simplify: 5/6 is already in its simplest form
Answer: 5/6. The fraction calculator works the same way.
