Guides
What is a guide
A guide answers a question that is not another calculator: exam-aid rules or syllabus orientation. On the Dutch site this section is called Gidsen (guides). The calculators themselves are under Calculators in the menu. Below you pick which guide fits — both child guides are in English.
Which guide do you need?
This index is a directory only. For the official rules, Examenblad.nl is the source; this site does not give subject-choice advice. Use the short chooser, then open the matching guide.
| You need… | Open |
|---|---|
| Which physical calculator may go into the Dutch central exam | Which calculator for the exam |
| Where mathematics A and B differ in the syllabus | Difference between math A and B |
| A sum with steps (percentage, equation, plot, …) | English calculator hub — not a guide |
Official exam requirements stay on Examenblad.nl. The exam-calculator guide summarizes current aids rules for school use; always check the year and your school’s list there.
Guides
Use the first guide when you need to know which device may go into the central exam. Use the second when you need to know where A and B differ in the material — not study-choice advice, and not an aids list. Both child guides are live in English.
Which calculator for the exam
Allowed devices for the Dutch central exam — sourced from Examenblad / CvTE. Not an online plotter.
havo vwoDifference between math A and B
Syllabus orientation: profiles and CE domains; C and D briefly; links to hubs — no device rules.
Official exam requirements stay on Examenblad.nl.
Guides versus calculators
A guide explains a school rule or a syllabus split. A calculator shows formula, substitution and arithmetic for one sum. To draw a graph, use the graphing calculator; to find out whether a graphing calculator may go to the exam, read the exam guide.
- Online calculator — expressions with steps
- Scientific calculator — sin, log, √
- Graphing calculator — plot f(x) for practice
- All English tools — subject hubs for numbers, algebra, geometry, statistics
If you already know the sum type, skip this directory and open the tool. If you need exam-aid or A/B orientation, stay here and open a guide.
What this index covers per level
Dutch secondary tracks are named once: vmbo, havo and vwo. This page only routes you; level detail lives in each guide and on Examenblad.
On vmbo the usual question from this directory is the exam-calculator guide: which ordinary device is allowed. Mathematics A vs B is mainly a havo/vwo syllabus topic.
On havo both guides matter: aids rules for the central exam, and how A and B split in the syllabus. Practice tools stay under Calculators and Topics.
On vwo the same two guides apply. Syllabus and aids facts belong in the child articles and on Examenblad — not rewritten here as a second article.

Gidsen is Dutch for guides. The Dutch index is /gidsen/; this page is the English pair.
Which guide do I open first?
Open the exam-calculator guide if you need which physical device may go into the Dutch central exam. Open mathematics A vs B if you need syllabus differences — not study-choice advice and not a device list.
Are the full guide articles in English yet?
Yes. Both the exam-calculator guide and the mathematics A vs B guide are in English.
Where do I practise with steps?
Use a calculator on the English hub. Online plotting is not the same question as “may this device go to the exam” — that stays in the guides section.
